The tank is full, and water is flowing — into the street. Clearly, the definition of a crisis. And for this customer, a water-handling company, the process of shutting down the pumps was still manual. Meaning that every second that it took for their crew to reach the pumps, water (and money!) was flowing into the streets of their city. Talk about your worst-case scenario. The loss was made worse, later, when the fines began to roll in. In fact, it was the fines violating environmental regulations that finally forced the producer to make significant changes to their operations.
When a pump system goes down, the cause isn’t always obvious. Few things in the field can be more frustrating than hunting down an elusive problem.
In his first Two-Minute Drives video, Cory Wesson, an electrical engineer with SPOC, talked about rod float and the disastrous effects it can have on your entire pumping operation. In a follow-up video, Cory talks about the many ways you can use your drive to eliminate rod float altogether.
Have you ever seen what lightning can do? Did you know that the average lightning strike contains about 1 billion volts? If you’ve ever been anywhere near the point of a lightning strike, you understand the meaning of truly awesome power. You also learn immense respect for the storm.
We talk a lot about innovation at SPOC. Sometimes innovation is a big idea, a breakthrough in technology. Other times, it’s something small; something that makes the customer’s life a little easier.
Every producer we’ve ever worked with was looking for ways to help their pumpers be more efficient, to be better at their jobs.
When we talk about the primary benefits of adding a drive to your rod pump applications, those benefits come in two flavors: cost savings and increased uptime. There are other benefits, however. Less stress and wear on your equipment mean things break less often so your maintenance costs go down and you get more from your investment.
