Hello, everybody. I’m Tres Gray with SPOC Automation, bringing another installment of our Two-Minute Drives series.

Today, I’m here to talk to you about adding some accessories to your variable speed drive and how that can save you time and money.

Specifically, what I’m talking about here is adding a GFI-rated plug to the chassis of your VSD. Why would you want to do this? Well, in a lot of applications, particularly artificial lift, there’s usually a chemical pump that’s going to be installed or something in that nature that needs electricity.  If we are installing a plug at the factory, we can save you 50 to 60 percent on installing the electric line to run your pump on the job site or at the well.

So, we can save you money there, but it’s also a convenience. If you need some auxiliary equipment, say you run a drill or you need to charge to a laptop or something, you’ve got a plug there. And we can get it up to about 15 amps, so you can really run a decent-sized piece of equipment.

Another way we can save money is we can actually set that up so that if the drive shuts off, it’ll also shut off your chemical pump. And that way you’re saving all that wasted chemical that you’re pouring downhole that’s not doing anything.

Something to think about when you’re looking for some convenience and saving a little bit of money on your installation. Think about adding a GFI-rated plug on your drive. That way when the drive drops, all you have to plug in your pump and you’re ready to go.
